Superior class of 2016 graduate Elias Olmos was named the Most Valuable Player of the annual Division VI Senior All-Star game, which took place Saturday, June 11 in Duncan, Ariz.
Olmos, an All-Division and All-Section selection for the Panthers’ state semifinal team last season, helped lead the Red Team to a 48 – 44 victory over the Blue Team in Saturday’s Senior Bowl. Olmos’ Superior teammate Andrew Lopez also participated in the game and was a member of the winning red team.
“It was a good experience to get to play with the guys I played against in the regular season and be on the same team as some of them instead of competing across from them,” said Olmos, who was also named the Panthers’ Team MVP after last season. “It was good to get on the field for one last high school game.”
The soon-to-be Arizona State University freshman will be participating in the NoKaOi Football Showcase in Hawaii later this month. Whether it’s Duncan, Ariz., or Waikiki, Hawaii, Olmos always remembers the town he’s from and represents.
“That’s the reason why I play,” Olmos answered why it’s important to him to represent Superior with great pride. “I feel like that’s my way of putting our town on the map. That’s what I strive for in every practice and workout.”
