Superior – After a relaxing spring break, the students of Superior Head Start are back, ready to focus on community and the important role we each have in keeping our community healthy and safe.
As part of their total focus, the children are preparing to participate in their Earth Day and Community walking field trip to clean up the Old Phoenix Road on Friday, Apr. 19, accompanied by staff, parents and community volunteers.
Superior Head Start has sponsored the highway cleanup for approximately the last 17 years, as well as receiving much appreciated help from the Superior Chamber of Commerce, Leslie of the Copper Gecko, Town of Superior, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Paul Babeu. The group looks forward to this year being as fun and successful as in the past. The day’s event will conclude with a sack picnic lunch at the park.
During the week of Apr. 14 to 20, the children will be participating in “The Week of the Young Child”, an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
This year, the theme is Early Years Are Learning Years. In celebration of this week, the Superior Head Start Preschool Class will have their paintings on display at the public library, located at 99 Kellner Avenue.
The Superior Head Start staff encourages the parents and family, and community and educators to guide, support and nurture children, including through play, as participation in The Week of the Young Child and to continue the fun on through the years.
Children learn through play. By participating in walking field trips and learning through play activities the children learn about the world around them and where their place in the world might be.
