Firefighters from Kearny worked for several hours Friday to extinguish a wildfire that sparked on SR 177 near Asarco’s Ray Mine. The fi re call came in at about 5 p.m. Firefighters Derek Heid, Josh Fessenden, Barb Carrell and Tony Santa Maria responded to the call and they stayed on scene until about 9 p.m. to make sure it was completely out. Later it rained, which helped keep it out.
Lora Snow of the Kearny Volunteer Fire Department said that high winds at the time could have caused the fi re to spread.
