Last month the Boyce Thompson Arboretum held a tree decorating contest. The tree had to be decorated using recycled materials and cash prizes were given to the first second and third prize winners.

The Copper Gecko entered the contest with a tree designed by store owner Leslie Martin and her tenant Nancy Vogler. The two decorated a fallen century plant with all sorts of recycled ornaments. They were a success and won first place which awarded them $300 to donate to a local charity.

The Copper Gecko donated their prize to the Superior Substance Abuse Coalition.

SSAC president Elizabeth Magallanez is pictured accepting the check from Leslie Martin the owner of the Copper Gecko. Magallanez expressed much appreciation for their donation. The SSAC hosts two major drug and alcohol free events each year as well as assist with planning for other drug and alcohol prevention activities.
