Mammoth to purchase commercial building

At a special meeting held on Thurs., Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m., the Mammoth Town Council voted to move forward with the purchase of a commercial building and lot at 337 Highway 77.

The building and lot currently are rented by Las Michoacanas Mexican Restaurant, Mi Pueblito Tortilleria and an Arjencia Water station. Mi Pueblito will be moving out of the building to another location in Mammoth.

No specifics as to the purchase price of the building and lot were discussed. Council member, Joe Tamayo and Joe Brewer was absent from the meeting as well as the Town’s attorney.

In other business, Scott Graff of Colby & Powell Auditors spoke about the upcoming audit and how bringing in someone to do a forensic audit would cost $15 to $20,000.

He said the regular audit would uncover any material errors caused by fraud or accident. The Council could then decide if they needed to look further into any discrepancies.

Town Clerk Patsy Large said they were not accusing anyone of any wrongdoing but there is some concern about past expenditures. The Council decided to go with the regular audit and told Mr. Graff to look closely into the retirement accounts and medical insurance accounts.
