Lady Panthers post 2-1 win over San Manuel

  At their April 12 away game in San Manuel, the Lady Panthers took to the softball diamond to avenge their March loss against the Lady Miners in a tournament championship game.

  The two tough teams stopped each other from scoring any runs in the first two innings. The girls fell behind by 0-1 in the third inning, as San Manuel was able to score a run. The fourth inning was another zero-run stalemate. During the fifth inning the Lady Panthers were able to secure 2 runs when Danika Bryant hit a home-run, collecting 2 RBIs. The girls were able to prevent San Manuel from scoring the rest of the game, giving them the win with a final score of 2-1. Danika Bryant also led from the mound, pitching all seven innings, and getting 18 strikeouts.

  During their game against San Manuel, the Superior baseball team started the with a 1-1 first inning. During the second inning, the Panthers were able to pull ahead by scoring 5 runs, putting the score at 6-1. The third inning saw the boys score another 4 runs, but it also saw San Manuel score 8 runs, putting the score at 10-9 for Superior. There were no runs scored for either the fourth or fifth innings. The Panthers were unable to post anymore runs for the remainder of the game. In the sixth inning, San Manuel was able to get 1 run through. The seventh inning saw no score change, and the game ended with a 10-10 tie. Leading the team at the plate was Joel Romero with 3 hits, followed by Zach Duarte and James Vasquez, each with 2 hits. Marcos Galindo, Adam Lopez, Zach Duarte, and Joel Romero each had 2 RBIs. Adam Lopez lead from the mound pitching 4 innings and collecting 6 strikeouts.

  On April 14, the Panthers suffered a 6-16 loss at their away game against Tempe Prep.

Up next for Superior: On Thursday, April 21, the teams will head to Kearny for games against Ray. Both softball and baseball start at 4 p.m. The varsity boys will head to San Manuel Friday, April 22, for another game against the Miners. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m. The baseball and softball teams will be on the road again for games against Anthem Prep. Both start at 3 p.m.
