Since the early 80’s when the copper prices declined and the Magma Mine closed, the community of Superior began to close up shop as well. Businesses closed, school enrollment dropped, and homes were abandoned. For almost 30 years, the community struggled to keep the town alive while re-inventing itself. Over the past decade the town of 2,700 residents has been hard at work remodeling homes, opening businesses and developing events to attract guests to Superior. Get an up close and personal view of some of these community improvements at the 6th Annual Home and Building Tour hosted by the Superior Chamber of Commerce.

The two day event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014. The event includes an art and antique show, historical lectures about Superior, and Mata Ortiz pottery demonstrations. There is a small admission for the home tour itself, tickets are available for the tour for $12 ($10 prepaid), tickets are valid for both days. All of the other events during the tour are free. Those purchasing a ticket for the home tour will also receive two for one admission coupons to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the Renaissance Festival. This is a terrific value that will only add to an amazing time as visitors “Discover Superior”. The home tour hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The tour begins at the newly renovated Chamber of Commerce building at 165 W. Main St. For more information please contact the Superior Chamber of Commerce at 520-689-0200 or 602-625-3151, or look for updates at www.superiorarizonachamber.org.
