Bud served in the Army during World War II and had a long and distinguished career as principal in Flagstaff, Tuba City and Page schools. He retired to Lake Montezuma where he and his wife, Bo McNamara, found a love for rock collecting and jewelry making. They were active members in the Cottonwood Rock and Mineral Club.
