In 1 Chronicles 13:2, David says to his men:“If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the Lord our God . . .”This is the key to our success in any endeavor.
Often, we construct a plan and then challenge God to bless it. If we are a servant of the Lord and trying to do ‘His work,’ we need to make certain that what we are doing is actually in His will.
Proverbs 19:21 tells us, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Most of the time we presume to know the Lord’s will, yet we have obviously not checked with Him about it. King David regularly sought the Lord for His direction and guidance. Because he then followed God’s advice, he became very successful.
Deuteronomy 1:43 says, “So I told you, but you would not listen.” It is one thing to ask God for help and direction; it is another to be obedient and do what He tells us to do. We tend to reason out His advice and compare it to our own plans; and then do what we wanted to do anyway.
It is okay to reason and plan, but when we ask the Lord to help us, we do best by following His ideas. That may burst our bubble, but our pride would only hinder us anyway.
When we obey the will of the Lord – it just can’t get any better than that. His blessings will flow and success is inevitable.
Psalm 143:10 – “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
