Approximately 10 adults including local law enforcement officers visited the Hayden-Winkelman School District lobby for a seminar on internet safety. The presentation was given by William Bessette from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Community Outreach and Education Division.
Topics covered included cyber-bullying, stalking, sexual predators, sexting and how the internet and social networking sites can increase a child’s exposure to negative influences.
The internet safety education program was presented earlier in the day to students at Hayden Elementary School.
Bessette spoke about the dangers of posting information on internet social networks and in chat rooms. Booklets were passed out with internet safety information including warning signs to watch out for and what parents can do if they believe their child is being stalked by a cyber predator.
The seminar was set up between the Hayden-Winkelman School District and the Office of the Attorney General, Tom Horne by Helene Martinez a counselor and Parent Liaison for the Hayden School District.
