Tucson Chamber Artists (TCA) opens its ninth season, Something Old, Something New: Experience the Power of Two, with a special concert of American folk songs and spirituals on Sunday, September 30, 3:00pm, at Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church, 3001 E Miravista Lane, Catalina (west side of Oracle Rd., 3.7 miles north of Tangerine Rd.)
In one of TCA’s most diverse programs, this concert, How Sweet the Sound: American Folk Songs and Spirituals, explores and celebrates America’s rich folk and spiritual music traditions. TCA’s professional choral and instrumental musicians will showcase their versatility through accompanied and a cappella works, including riveting African American spirituals and beloved hymns Amazing Grace, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross and Down to the River to Pray. Aaron Copland’s distinctly American pioneer style is on display in Shall We Gather at the River and Zion’s Walls. The father of American music Stephen Foster pays tribute to some of America’s favorite women in Gentle Annie, Nelly Bly and Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair. The concert concludes with an old fashioned hoedown in an exhilarating setting of Cindy, that will get everyone’s toes tapping!
TCA is coming off their biggest year at the box office yet. Season tickets are on sale now and are selling well. Tickets for the September concert are available now! As a special introduction to TCA’s new season, all tickets for this special concert are just $20 (normally $25), and are available by calling 401-2651, visiting www.TucsonChamberArtists.org, or at the door on concert day.
