It is the time of the year, again, as the holiday celebrations are taking place, to reflect on the good things in life. As we gather with our families and friends, it is also a time to remember those that struggle during the holiday times. There are many families that struggle to keep this time as a joyous occasion. The pressure of providing a good holiday dinner and Christmas gifts can be trying, at times.
I Just want the people to be aware that there is, among us in our small community, the less fortunate. This Thanksgiving, the Superior Food Bank has provided some of the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner to needy families. Our market, over the years, has worked very closely with the food bank, in trying to find closeouts of food products or special food deals, so it can be distributed locally.
As always, there is never enough food for those in need I was shocked by the number of Thanksgiving food boxes requested this year. The leadership informed me that over 250 families made requests and were delivered to. I was also informed that this organization touches over 1,000 residents in our community. We only have 2800 people living in our small community. That is almost 36 percent of our population in need.
The food bank was able to provide 250 food boxes for Thanksgiving.. These boxes included a turkey and some of the fixings to go along. This would not have happened if it were not for the Superior Food Bank.
If you are planning to make an end of the year contribution of sorts, maybe try to direct some of those funds to the local food bank. It could be your next door neighbor that is in need. For now, at least 250 families are enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner.
God bless you and God bless our community.
