Gilbert Salinas Carnighan, 80, passed away Nov. 29, 2013 in Fullerton, CA. He was born March 5, 1933 to John and Nasaria Carnighan in Tiger, AZ.
He was raised in Mammoth and attended high school in Florence.
Gilbert served in the United States Army from Sept. 14, 1953 to Aug. 14, 1961. He served in the United States Navy from Aug. 31, 1967 to Feb. 29, 1980. Before and in between his service to the country, he worked for Magma Copper Company.
During the time of his service in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Lorna Bristow. They married and had three sons.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna. He is survived by his sons, Mark, Robin and Jerome Carnighan, all of Fullerton, CA; sister, Dora Mendoza; five nieces; and many friends from the Tri-Community.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Valley View Cemetery in Mammoth, AZ.
