The Copper Basin Food Bank is again up and running after a setback that interrupted food distribution last month. Delivery will continue tomorrow, Feb. 21.
United Food Bank had severed all ties with the Florence Food Bank, leaving the local food bank with nothing in January. Currently, the Copper Basin Food Bank is under the umbrella of the Florence Food Bank who meets all requirements for the Pinal County Health Department and all liability issues.
United Food Bank contacted the Kearny town government asking it to sign an agreement to continue services, but the Town couldn’t do that because it would be assuming all the liability associated with a food bank and United rules.
The Florence Food Bank is now working with the Christian Food Co-op located in the Florence-Coolidge area. Approximately 25 to 30 churches have joined together to operate the food bank and have included the Copper Basin Food Bank as part of their distribution.
Numbers will be handed out tomorrow starting at 11:30 a.m. and food distribution will start soon after. Donations will be accepted, but starting in March, a donation will be required.
Also beginning in March, the food distribution will be on the second Thursday of the month. Times may vary, so check the Copper Basin News for information.
