Youth honored at annual Elks banquet

Kearny Elks Lodge #2478 honored Copper Basin area young people at its annual Youth Banquet Sunday.

Each academic year the Lodge sponsors a variety of contests and programs involving students from both the Ray and Hayden/Winkelman School Districts.

Students receiving recognition included:

Americanism Contest, Kiana Lopez, Ray, and Robert Casillas, HW.

Drug Awareness Contest, Claire Chiquete, third grade, HW; Felicity Boltarez, fourth grade, HW; and Jennifer Gregorich, fifth grade, HW.

Hoop Shoot, Deondre Collier, 8-9 Boys, HW; Alexis Gallego, 8-9 Girls, Ray; Manny Guillen 10-11 Boys, HW; Sarah Perez, 10-11 Girls, HW; Alex Carrillo, 12-13 Boys, Ray; Brianna Goad, 12-13 Girls, Ray.

Soccer Shoot, Ty Chesnut, Under 8 Boys, Ray; Makayla Rivera, Under 8 Girls, HW; Hunter Day, Under 10 Boys, Ray; Kassidy Ballejos, Under 10 Girls, Ray; Derek Figueroa, Under 12 Boys, Ray; Emma Stuart, Under 12 Girls, Ray; Christian Day, Under 14 Boys, Ray.

Students of the Month are selected each month for academic and school involvement.

Students recognized this past school year were Alex Willis, Stephanie Lomeli, Robin Newman, Hannah Mercer, Destry Yocum, Gabrielle Juvera, Jeron Coleman, Stormee Galka and Sabrina Martinez.

The Student of the Year was Alex Willis.

The members and officers of the Lodge would like to thank the administration, teachers and especially the parents of both school systems for participating, helping and raising such fine young ladies and gentlemen. Without this help the Lodge would not be able to accomplish the youth programs it does.
