Younger Blazers post three wins in diamond action this week; older girls post two more wins

To start off the week the Blazers (12u) traveled to San Manuel to play the Panthers.

The Panthers wasted no time and leaped out to a three-run lead after the first inning. The Blazers came back in the second inning and scored five runs. After a confusing top of the second inning call, the Blazers defense tightened up and did not allow another run. The Blazers offense scored one run in the third and one run in the fourth inning, and added five more runs in the fifth inning to end the game.

Starting on the mound Julie Meza, relieving Daniella Hinojos (5K/0W/0ER), and closing Jada Zaragoza (1K, 1W, 1ER). Offensively the Blazers were led by Tara Lorona (2-3, HR), Daniella Hinojos (2-4, HR), Sydney Contreras (2-4, triple), and Trinity Olsen (1-3).

The second game of the week brought the Oracle Extreme to visit the Blazers. The Extreme scored five runs in the second inning and four runs in the fifth inning to keep the game close. The Blazers scored two runs in the second, five runs in the second inning, five runs in the third inning, and five runs in the fourth inning to hold off the Extreme.

Leading the offense was Jada Zaragoza (3-3), Tara Lorona (2-3, triple), Julie Meza (2-3), and Trinity Olsen (2-4).

The third game of the week took the Blazers to Oracle to face off against the Extreme again. The Blazers started off strong scoring four runs in the 1st inning and 2 runs in the 2nd inning. The 3rd inning and 4th inning the Blazers were able to score 4 runs in each inning to end the game. On the mound Jada Zaragoza (6K/4W/0ER) pitched a complete game shutout for the win. Offensively the Blazers were led by Sydney Contreras (3-4, 2 doubles), Tara Lorona (2-3, 2 doubles), Julie Meza (2-3), Danielle Barajas (2-3), Ari Allen (1-3, double), and Trinity Olsen (1-3).

The Blazers (14u) traveled to San Manuel to face the Foxy Rockets. The Blazers scored first scoring four runs in the first inning as the Rockets responded with two runs. The Blazers scored two more runs in the second inning, as the Rockets brought nine batters to the plate in this inning and eight were able to score, bringing the score to 10-8 in favor of the Rockets. The Blazers came back and scored three runs to take a slim 11-10 lead in the top of the third inning. The Rockets were able to score two runs in the bottom of the third inning, as the game was called for curfew by the Rockets coaches, leaving the score standing 12-11 after three complete innings.

Starting on the mound Dee Spurgeon (2K, 4W, 5 ER) and Daniella Hinojos relieving (2K, 1W, 0ER) for one inning. The Blazers bats were led by Dee Spurgeon (3-3, HR, double), Jada Zaragoza (2-3, HR), Tara Lorons (2-3), Janae Ruiz (1-2), Daniella Hinojos (1-3, HR), and Emma Alvarado (1-3, triple).

The Blazers played a double header for the final two games of the week. First up this night for the Blazers were the Foxy Rockets. The Blazers started off strong scoring three runs in the first inning as the Rockets were able to score one run. The Blazers added three more runs in the second inning, as the Rockets were held scoreless this inning. The Rockets scored three more runs in the top of the third inning. As the Blazers held the Rockets to no runs scored the final two innings, the Blazers were able to score two runs in the third inning, three runs in the fourth inning, and four runs in the fifth and final inning, ending the game with a 14-4 score.

On the mound Nkiki Baldenegro (5K/3W/3ER) pitched a complete game for the win. Blazers batting was led by Janae Ruiz (2-2, triple), Dee Spurgeon (3-4), Tara Lorona (2-3), Emma Alvarado (2-4, HR), Julie Meza (2-4, triple), Nikki Baldenegro (2-4), and Daniella Hinojos (2-4).

The second game of the evening brought the Adrenaline of Mammoth to Hayden. The Blazers started off strong the first inning scoring three runs. The Adrenaline scored one run in the second inning. The Blazers scored four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning, as the Blazers were able to hold Adrenaline to one run in the fifth inning, ending the game 9-2.

The offense was led by Daniella Hinojos (2-2), Dee Spurgeon (2-2), Janae Ruiz (1-2, double), and Nikki Bladenegro (1-3, double). On the mound Daniella Hinojos (7K/3W/1ER) pitched a complete game for the win.

Up next for Blazers Softball, the 3rd Annual Community Game at the Hayden-Winkelman Little League Park, Thursday, July 4, at 6:30 p.m. The Blazers coaches and alumni will face off against a Community team as part of the 4th of July festivities. The fireworks will follow the game. Last year the Community team won.
