Special to the Miner

Nine members of the Desert Fox Youth Archery Club participated in the Harry Winn Memorial Archery Tournament on Saturday, Apr. 6, which was hosted by the Apache Bow Hunters of Globe. This was the first tournament for all the young archers and they did very well.

In the youth division (ages 14 to 16), Taylor Woods placed second and Morgan Fisher placed third. In the cub division (ages nine to 13), Raya Woods won first, Sarah Parisot placed second and Max Fisher placed third.

Placing second in the Pee Wee Division (ages nine and under) was Lane Large. Dante, Dominic and Jared Parisot all participated, and Celeste and Emily Large were there to cheer them all on.

Desert Fox Youth Archery is a free program for children of the tri-community that teaches the skill of archery which was started in 2001 by Ruben Roberts. Desert Fox is now led by Aaron Woods and his wife Angie.

“This club really means a lot to me and I am thankful to Aaron,” Roberts said. “He’s done a tremendous job.”

Since Woods has taken the lead, the club has grown in numbers, and now includes upwards of 23 members. “This tournament was a first for our club,” Woods said. “I am so proud of the kids and the job they did up in Globe. They dominated the competition!”

Since the archers did so well at the Globe Tournament, Desert Fox hopes to host their own tournament this summer.

The club always welcomes new archers. They meet every other Sunday at 2:30 at the Tri City Archery Range. For more information, “like” their Facebook page (Desert Fox Youth Archery) or call Aaron at 520-820-6333.
