A Winkelman man is currently in custody in the Pima County Jail in Tucson awaiting extradition to Gila County where prosecutors have charged him with two counts of attempted second degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault after a weekend assault on his wife and brother-in-law.

A spokesperson for the Hayden Police Department yesterday confirmed the arrest of Guillermo Ortega III, 37, by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. Details of the incident, which occurred on Sunday, April 28, 2013, have not been released by the Hayden Police Department. The spokesperson stated the case is still under investigation and details will be released as they become available.

A bench warrant for Ortega has been issued by Justice of the Peace Pro-Tem Rebecca Baeza of the Globe Regional Justice Court and a complaint has been filed against Ortega by the Hayden Police Department, charging him with the two counts of attempted second degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault. All six charges are under the domestic violence statute.

According to the warrant, Ortega will be held on a $250,000 secured appearance bond.
