The failure of the budget override election will result in cuts to the Oracle Elementary School District #2 budget of $148,000 next year, and another $148,000 the following year, according to Superintendent Dennis Blauser. Blauser was asked if the school district will be looking at making more cuts in spending as a result of the failed override. “It’s too early to tell but it is a possibility,” said Blauser. “We will use every resource not too, but in the end we may have to commit to that as a last resort.” The loss of budget override funds could be devastating to the school district in the upcoming years.
Blauser said that he hoped the school board will look at seeking another override continuation election next November to save some of the funding. Blauser also talked about some new programs the school implemented, such as Cosmo Kidz (anti-bullying, character education program), a classical guitar class, Equestrian class, sewing class, and choir that are well attended. “Thanks to volunteers from SaddleBrooke, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Eagle Crest and Oracle, these programs were made available,” said Blauser. These programs have been added at no cost to taxpayers. “As great as they are, they don’t replace regular curriculum classes,” said Blauser. The override election results will be one of the items on the agenda at the next school board meeting on Nov. 19.
