About 40 volunteers from Superior and throughout the state spent their Saturday morning helping to remove trash from the Tonto National Forest, south of the Airport near Superior. The clean up filled four dumpsters with everything from furniture, shingles, tires, glass, green waste, drink cans and every day trash.
There were approximately four sites that were identified for clean up, crews used heavy equipment to load the trash and transport it to the dumpsters. Dumping in the desert is illegal and is a punishable offense.
The clean up was coordinated by state wide non-profits Natural Restorations and Footprints Matter to Us. Both groups work throughout the state to combat illegal dumping in the forest. Local companies, Resolution Copper, Odonetto Construction, and OMYA assisted with roll offs, volunteer staffing along with heavy equipment use and operators.
