Felicity Boltarez and Jordan Danielle Lopez are the two faithful young ladies who have agreed to campaign and vie for the position of Queen for the 36th Annual Saint Francis Church Fiestas Patrias to be held September 12th and 13th.
Jordan resides locally on Richard Avenue with her family, while Felicity and her family reside on Greenwich in Kearny. The girls and their families have been busy consulting with Marcella Garcia who is the queen candidates’ director and coordinator of their fund raising activities. These fund raising events will continue until the week before the Annual Fiesta. Both candidates and their families will be selling fiesta tickets which count as votes for the candidates.
Felicity is 10 years old and the daughter of Richard Wade and Liberty Bailey. Felicity will be attending 5th grade at Ray Unified School District #3 Elementary School in Kearny. She is the eldest of four children, and according to her parents, Felicity executes her role as the “big sister” very well. Her eldest brother, Junior, is eight and in the third grade. Her sister, Abigale, is four years old, and baby brother, Aidyn, is only two.
Queen Candidate Felicity enjoys doing math which is her favorite school subject. She has played baseball for three years and basketball for one. Additionally, she is a cheerleader at her school. Felicity’s favorite movie is Pitch Perfect. She also likes listening to country music and visiting with her friends. Pizza, burros and hamburgers are the foods she likes the best.
Felicity’s church activities include visiting her neighbors who are homebound and making cookies for them. She volunteers policing and cleaning areas of her community, and she loves reading books to the younger students at her school.
Felicity decided to run for Fiesta Queen because she feels that fund raising with the other girls will be fun; and she wants to help her church. “Win or lose, I think it will be great to be a queen or a princess for a weekend,” smiled Felicity.
Jordan is 11 years old and the daughter of Mario and Jaclynn Lopez. She will be starting the seventh grade at Superior Junior-Senior High School. She too is the “big sister” to three siblings. She has a 10-year-old brother, Adam, in the sixth grade; a six-year-old brother, Caleb, in the first grade; and a little sister, Lauryn, who is four years old. “The younger children can’t lose track of her for very long before they start asking for her and looking for their big sister,” said her mother Jaclynn.
This fiesta queen candidate likes math as well and loves America’s favorite pastime, baseball. Jordan has been a Little League player for six years, and has played basketball for two years. She has participated in the JFK Nature Club and JFK Student Council. In student council, she has served as Class Representative and as Treasurer. She enjoys listening to hip hop and her favorite movie is The Little Rascals. Her favorite food is Spanish rice.
Jordan has attended religious education classes at St. Francis since she was in kindergarten. She is also a regular at Vacation Bible School. She makes a practice of visiting those who are ill and homebound. Her community involvement includes helping the Optimist Club with different events.
About being a queen candidate, Jordan wrote, “I look forward to dedicating my time to raising funds for our beautiful church. Representing Saint Francis of Assisi Church has been one of my top most goals, and I am so happy that now I will have a chance to do it.” She went on to explained that she feels very lucky to be part of a loving family and a supportive community.
