In their multimedia installation, “Shadows of Existence,” Bryan Crow and Sharon Holnback have created a provocative world within the space of adobe walls to explore light and shadow, both physically and poetically.  Utilizing their diverse skills, both artists set out to act as mirrors to each other’s ideas. Their pieces play off each other in a rhythmic flow of changing scale and repeating forms. A set of ethereal clouds, abstract figures and man-made objects are backed by an ambient soundtrack of original compositions by Michael Carroll.

Crow and Holnback utilize metal, glass, concrete, found objects, photographs, paint and light. The scene oscillates from surreal desert landscapes to industrial wastelands.  The exhibition culminates in a residency by Bryan at the Triangle L Ranch, where Sharon lives and works. Combining thoughts, materials and their individual artwork, they set out to find what they could say together.  Not having any preconceived plan both artists worked, evaluated, reevaluated, and discussed the different stages along the way.  The work reflects both the exploration of familiar landscapes and improvisation with material to create something new as they investigate light and shadow.

Bryan Crow lives and works in Tucson, and has participated in residency programs and shows artwork throughout the United States.  Sharon Holnback has a BA from the U of A, has exhibited extensively and curates artwork for Triangle L Ranch Land – High-Desert Art in Nature Park, Gallery and Gift Shop.

Triangle L Ranch, Adobe Barn Gallery is located at 2805 N. Triangle L Ranch Rd., Oracle.
