Asarco, last week, had more than 90,000 pounds of copper anodes returned to them following a traffic stop by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

According to DPS Public Information Officer R. Molina, on Sept. 27, 2012, officers made a traffic stop on I-10 and found 48 anodes in a commercial vehicle trailer. Each one weighs approximately 880 pounds. The discovery at the traffic stop led DPS investigators to a residence in the 6300 block of West Tangerine Road in Marana with a search warrant. Officers located 54 more copper anodes and seized three truck tractors and semi-trailers, a fork lift and two hand carts, according to a news release.

Representatives from Asarco in Hayden identified the copper anodes at the scene.

The copper was valued at approximately $300,000.
