The Ray HS Track and Field team started its season on Feb. 28, 2013 at the San Manuel – Non Qualifying Meet at San Manuel HS. Head Coach Mike Smith said both teams looked good as the girls finished in third place and the boys finished in second place. Six teams competed at the meet. For the boys’ team Ryan Bickley took first in both the shot-put and the discus. Josh Miramontes won the 400m event. Austin Everett was tops in the 200m dash. Matt Graham also took first in the high jump competition.

For the girls’ team Haliegh Osborn took first in both the shot-put and the discus while Gabrielle Mapes won the 200m dash. According to Coach Smith, other team members placed at the meet but official final results were not available for this edition. The Bearcats Track and Field team will participate next in the Safford “Bulldog” Invitational on Mar. 21 at Safford HS. It is a state qualifying meet and the meet begins at 2:30 p.m.

The Beartcats baseball team defeated Miami HS, 8-6 and San Manuel HS, 13-5 this past week. Their record is 4-2 as they have a small break in the season before returning to action on March 18 at Florence HS vs. the Gophers.

After starting the season with two victories, the Bearcats softball team suffered their first loss versus San Manuel on Mar. 7. The Bearcats have played solid defense as their team field percentage of .967 would indicate. The Bearcats softball team will resume play, like the baseball team, on March 18, 2013 at Florence HS vs. the Gophers.
