Tillie Gonzalez

  Tillie Gonzalez, 75, of Oceanside, California, passed away at her home on July 23, 2016 surrounded by her family.  She was born to Lazaro and Flavia Torres on Oct. 14, 1940.

  Tillie attended Superior schools and was a 1959 graduate of Superior High School.  She continued her studies at St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing where she received her R.N. degree in 1962.  She then returned home to work for Magma Copper Company Hospital. 

  On June 22, 1963, she married David Gonzalez, a Lieutenant in the US Air Force.  They were stationed at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas, Whiteman AFB, Missouri, and then Norton AFB, San Bernardino, California where they made their home and raised three daughters. 

  Up until the time of her retirement, she spent 20 plus years working at St. Bernadine’s Hospital.  After retirement in 1998, she and Dave made their new home in Oceanside.  Soon after, she would be blessed with five grandchildren whom she adored.  She also enjoyed sewing, making and painting her porcelain dolls, collecting bears, traveling, and shopping! 

  She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David Gonzalez; daughters, Patricia Gonzalez, Rebecca Woodhouse, and Christine Quiroz; son-in-law, Louis Quiroz; grandchildren, Collin Woodhouse, Emily Woodhouse, Gabriella Sharnborg, Sadie Quiroz, and Lucas Quiroz; her sister, Armida Sainz; brothers, Joe Torres and Manuel Torres; and many extended family and friends. 

  A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 490 Main St., Superior, Arizona at 11 a.m.   A Celebration of Life reception will immediately follow at Los Hermanos Ballroom, 835 Hwy. 60, Superior, Arizona.
