SENIOR CENTER SERVICES Superior Senior Center located at 360 West Main Street, Superior, offers meals in the center for a suggested donation of $2 for persons 60 or older, or those who have a disability.  The price of a meal for those under 60 is $4.  The meals are served at noon.  If anyone needs transportation to or from the center, the suggested donation is $1 for those 60 or older.  The price is $1 mandatory for those under 60.  We ask that you call by 7:30 a.m. to ensure that your ride is provided for you and to verify your location.  If you have any questions regarding the Senior Center and services, please call 520-689-5182.

THRIFT STORE The Superior Seniors have a thrift store which takes clean, gently used items to sell.  The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to noon.  The store is adjacent to the Senior Center. Please come in and browse the selection of household items, books and clothing.

SCHOOL BOARD PACKETS School Board packets are ready to be mailed out or picked up from the Pinal County School Office. JFK PRESCHOOL John F. Kennedy Elementary Preschool is now accepting applications for the 2012 – 2013 school year. Children must be four years of age by September 1 and parents/guardians will need to provide proof of income, the child’s birth certificate, and immunization records. Applications are available at JFK Elementary School, 1500 Sunset Drive, Superior. For questions please call 520-689-3039.

SUPERIOR ZUMBA CLASSES Attend Zumba classes with Ericka Real Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. at the Kennedy Elementary Multipurpose Room behind the front building. Class is free, but donations are welcome. Call 520-827-1163 for more information.

FIESTA QUEEN NEEDED St. Francis of Assisi Church is seeking Fiesta Queen Candidates for the 2012 September 15 and 16 Fiestas. If you are interested please contact Marcella Garcia at 480-550-1578 or the Parish Office at 520-689-2250. Please come and join the fun!

RUMMAGE SALE There will be a rummage sale on Saturday, August 11, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Sunday, August 12, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Chorizo and egg burros will be sold. BASKETBALL TOURNEY A four-on-four double elimination basketball tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, at Pinitos Park in San Pedro. Sign up is at 10 a.m. and the cost is $5 per player. WE THE PEOPLE We the People will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, August 11, from 9 – 10:30 a.m., at the Oracle courthouse. The topic for this month will be Candidates Forum. Come meet, greet and vet your local county state and federal candidates . This is your opportunity to get to know who, what and why these people want to represent and serve “we the people.” Meetings are open to the public. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES St. Francis of Assisi is now registering children in grades K-8 and CYM for religious education classes, which start on Monday, August 20. Pick up registration forms at the parish office or in the vestibule after mass on Sunday, or download at www.st.francissuperior.org. GED CLASSES will be held in Superior starting Aug. 21. To register for GED classes bring two forms of ID, including one picture ID, to the Superior Junior-Senior High School in room 102 on August 21 between 6 and 7:30 p.m.

OBAMA’s RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN Volunteers are needed for Obama’s Re-Election Campaign. Come to the Tuesday, August 21, meeting, 7 p.m., at the Oracle Fire Department, 1475 American Avenue, Oracle, to hear speaker Trevor Gervais, the Regional Field Director for Southern Arizona. FATHER’S DAY GOLF TOURNAMENT On Saturday, August 25, you are invited to participate in the Seventh Annual Father’s Day Golf Tournament (actually postponed from Father’s Day) at the Queen Valley Golf Club, sponsored by the Superior Optimist Club. The entry fee for this three-person scramble is $40, which includes greens fees and cart. There will be a 50/50 cash drawing and a raffle for great prizes, as well as an auction. Breakfast burritos will be available. Hamburgers and refreshments will be served for lunch. Shot-gun start is at 7 a.m., with registration at 6 a.m. Proceeds are to benefit youth programs and activities in Superior and surrounding areas. BOB JONES MUSEUM The Bob Jones Museum will close this Memorial Day weekend for the summer months of June, July an August and will re-open after the Labor Day weekend on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

CLASS OF 1962 The Class of 1962 is making plans to celebrate its 50th class reunion on Saturday, October 13. VFW #3584 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The VFW 3584 George E. Truman Post is having a membership drive, and, seeking family members of veterans to join the Ladies Auxiliary and men to start a Men’s Auxiliary. In March, 2012, they will be having their 75th anniversary celebration. Anyone interested in joining should contact the Post.
