COPPER BASIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 2012 THEME The theme for the Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce’s activities for 2012 is “Celebrating Statehood, 100 Years, With Rails and Trails.” If you have favorite stories of the rails and trails of the Copper Basin area contact the Copper Basin News and they will assign their reporters to write your story or you can contact Rosalind Padilla through the Chamber office.

KEARNY ELKS LODGE MEETINGS Kearny Elks Lodge #2478 meetings are held the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. The lounge has a new schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 5 – 8 p.m.

VOTER REGISTRATION Attention Hayden-Winkelman Residents: The Gila County Recorder Sadie Jo Tomerlin will be conducting voter registration drives at the following locations and times: Hayden October 2 at Hayden Town Hall 9 a.m. – noon ; and Winkelman at Winkelman Town Hall 1 – 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, will be the last day to register for the Nov. 6 General Election. EARLY HEAD START ENROLLMENT The Mammoth/Winkelman Early Head Start is accepting enrollment applications for children 0-3 years for the 2012-2013 school year. Children must be three before Aug. 31, 2012, and parents need to bring in proof of birth, guardianship, income and immunizations. Children with disabilities accepted. ADULT BOY SCOUT LEADERS NEEDED Boy Scouts of America, Troop 872, based in Kearny and sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS is searching for Adult Leaders that are willing to volunteer time and talents to assist in building the next generation of leaders. DUDLEYVILLE BURN BAN Effective May 1 – Sept. 30, a Burn Ban will be in effect for the Dudleyville Volunteer Fire District, which includes the areas of Dudleyville, Indian Hills and Aravaipa. All permits will expire May 1s Agricultural permits, even though issued for one year, are null and void in our district while the burn ban is in place.

IN HONOR OF ADRIANA CRUZ In honor of Adriana Cruz, the Sophomore Class of Hayden High School has established a memorial account, the Adriana Cruz Memorial Fund, at Bank of the West, for anyone wishing to help her family. KEARNY SENIOR CITIZENS Meetings for the Kearny Senior Citizens are being held at the Constitution Hall once a month, this summer, at 10 a.m. on the last Wednesday of the month, until the end of September. ATTENTION LOBOS FANS 65 AND OLDER The Hayden Winkelman School District is honoring all Lobo fans ages 65 and older who reside in our district with a lifetime Royal Senior Pass. KEARNY LIBRARY STORY HOUR Bring your pre-schoolers to the Kearny Library for Story Hour each Thursday, from 1 – 2 p.m.

CCAB MEETING The Copper Community Action Board (CCAB) meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 pm, at Maria’s Restaurant. All are welcome!

FREE COOKING CLASS On Wednesday, September 26, there will be a free cooking class at Brac’s Clubhouse, 1115 S. Industrial Drive, Kearny. Refreshments and light snacks will be served. Space is limited, so call Veronica soon to reserve your space at 480-242-1580.

FIESTA Blessed Sacrament Parish in Mammoth will have its fiesta on Saturday, Sept. 29, starting at 2 p.m. and ending at midnight. It will start with celebration of Mass which begins at 1 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church, to be followed by entertainment as scheduled: 2-4 p.m. DJ Music; 4-5:30 p.m. Folklorico Alma De Superior; 5:30-6 p.m. Queen and her Attendants; 6-8 p.m. Mariachis Corazon, ages 12 -14; and 8 p.m. – midnight live music from Grupo Amancer Band. There will also be fun games and tasty food available.

KEARNY LIBRARY STORY HOUR Bring your pre-school age children to Kearny Library on Thursdays for Story Hour, which starts at 1 pm. There will be crafts, snacks, the learning of ABC’s; and on October 4, for Fire Safety Month, the Kearny Fire Department will be lending us a Fireman to explain fire safety. There will even be a fire truck for the kids to explore.

OKTOBERFEST IN KEARNY Come celebrate Oktoberfest in Kearny, October 5 and 6. There will be a car show, salsa contest, chili cook-off, vendors, activities for children, a hot dog eating contest, friday night movies a drawing, prizes and more fun. KEARNY CLEAN UP Kearny’s free dump day is held on the second Saturday of every month at the old transfer station. The next free dump day is set for Oct. 13.

LADIES TEA PARTY You are cordially invited to the Kearny Library’s 2012 Season Ladies Tea Party, to be held on Wednesday, October 17, at 1 p.m. There will be refreshments, a craft, and a good time to be had by all. Come join us!

FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTION The Copper Basin Food Bank will distribute food on the third Thursday of every month at 1:30 p.m. at Hubbard Park in Kearny. The next distribution date is Oct. 18. Please bring your own box. Donations are accepted. The CBFB is assisted by the Florence Food Bank. Food distribution times may vary each month. Numbers for the distribution will always be given out starting at 11:30 a.m.
