COPPER BASIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 2012 THEME The theme for the Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce’s activities for 2012 is “Celebrating Statehood, 100 Years, With Rails and Trails.” If you have favorite stories of the rails and trails of the Copper Basin area contact the Copper Basin News and they will assign their reporters to write your story or you can contact Rosalind Padilla through the Chamber office.

KEARNY ELKS LODGE MEETINGS Kearny Elks Lodge #2478 meetings are held the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. The lounge has a new schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 5 – 8 p.m.

EARLY HEAD START ENROLLMENT The Mammoth/Winkelman Early Head Start is accepting enrollment applications for children 0-3 years for the 2012-2013 school year. Children must be three before Aug. 31, 2012, and parents need to bring in proof of birth, guardianship, income and immunizations. Children with disabilities accepted. ADULT BOY SCOUT LEADERS NEEDED Boy Scouts of America, Troop 872, based in Kearny and sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS is searching for Adult Leaders that are willing to volunteer time and talents to assist in building the next generation of leaders. DUDLEYVILLE BURN BAN Effective May 1 – Sept. 30, a Burn Ban will be in effect for the Dudleyville Volunteer Fire District, which includes the areas of Dudleyville, Indian Hills and Aravaipa. All permits will expire May 1s Agricultural permits, even though issued for one year, are null and void in our district while the burn ban is in place.

IN HONOR OF ADRIANA CRUZ In honor of Adriana Cruz, the Sophomore Class of Hayden High School has established a memorial account, the Adriana Cruz Memorial Fund, at Bank of the West, for anyone wishing to help her family. A memorial t-shirt sale will also take place. HAYDEN POOL HOURS The Town of Hayden Swimming Pool hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon – 5 p.m and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.; and Saturday, noon – 5 p.m.

TOWN OF HAYDEN SUMMER HOURS Effective June 1, summer hours for the Hayden Town Hall , Hayden Senior Center and Hayden Public Library will be from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Thursday and closed on Friday. Public Works summer hours will be from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday – Friday. Additionally, the library will be open evenings on Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m.

FREE FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES Every Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church, come for a free movie, free popcorn and free lemonade. See the posters uptown for this week’s family-friendly movie! Bring a pillow to cushion your bumpkin!

KEARNY SENIOR CITIZENS Meetings for the Kearny Senior Citizens are being held at the Constitution Hall once a month, this summer, at 10 a.m. on the last Wednesday of the month, until the end of September. Anyone that is interested is welcome to come and join us. You can call 520-363-7338 for further information.

WINKELMAN LOBITOS PRESCHOOL PARENT ORIENTATION will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, at 8:30 a.m. in Room 305 at Winkelman Elementary School. This meeting is mandatory – parents MUST attend before child can attend preschool (parents only please).

WRESTLING TOURNEYS The Comet Wrestling Club and Mammoth-San Manuel Community Schools will be hosting eight dates for K-12 folk-style wrestling at San Manuel High School. This will help provide free mat time, strengthen Southern Arizona Wrestling and help young men and women become champions. Wrestling will be held in the San Manuel High School gym. Weigh-ins are at 8 a.m. and wrestling will start at 9 a.m. ending at noon. Wrestling is free and everyone welcome to participate with a parent signed waiver. KEARNY CLEAN UP Kearny’s free dump day is held on the second Saturday of every month at the old transfer station. The next free dump day is set for Aug. 11.

BASKETBALL TOURNEY A four-on-four double elimination basketball tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, at Pinitos Park in San Pedro. Sign up is at 10 a.m. and the cost is $5 per player. WE THE PEOPLE We the People will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, August 11, from 9 – 10:30 a.m., at the Oracle courthouse. The topic for this month will be Candidates Forum. Come meet, greet and vet your local county state and federal candidates . This is your opportunity to get to know who, what and why these people want to represent and serve “we the people.” Meetings are open to the public. INFANT JESUS OF PRAGUE COD registration for all grades will be every Sunday after the 9 a.m. Mass in the Parish Hall. Class times will be announced at a later time.

FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTION The Copper Basin Food Bank will distribute food on the third Thursday of every month at 1:30 p.m. at Hubbard Park in Kearny. The next distribution date is Aug. 16. Please bring your own box. Donations are accepted. The CBFB is assisted by the Florence Food Bank. Food distribution times may vary each month. Numbers for the distribution will always be given out starting at 11:30 a.m.

OBAMA’s RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN Volunteers are needed for Obama’s Re-Election Campaign. Come to the Tuesday, August 21, meeting, 7 p.m., at the Oracle Fire Department, 1475 American Avenue, Oracle, to hear speaker Trevor Gervais, the Regional Field Director for Southern Arizona. LABOR DAY The Town of Kearny Administrative Offices, Library and Public Works will be closed Monday, Sept. 3 for the Labor Day holiday. There will not be any garbage pickup that day. Monday’s route will be done on Tuesday, Sept. 4, starting at 6 a.m.
