COPPER BASIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 2012 THEME The theme for the Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce’s activities for 2012 is “Celebrating Statehood, 100 Years, With Rails and Trails.” If you have favorite stories of the rails and trails of the Copper Basin area contact the Copper Basin News and they will assign their reporters to write your story or you can contact Rosalind Padilla through the Chamber office.

DUDLEYVILLE NO BURNING BAN LIFTED The Dudleyville Fire Department has lifted the no burning ban, effective until May 1. Permits can be purchased at the Board of Supervisors office in Mammoth. Permit holders please follow all rules on permits and observe all red flag (windy) days.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP MEETING Need help in turning your mourning to joy? Join the Grief Support group meeting on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Nov. 15 – Feb. 28, at Church of the Good Shepherd, 617 Senator Chastain Street in Kearny. DEADLINES FOR CHAMBER SPONSORED ACTIVITIES Come to the Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce Office, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., weekdays, to obtain registration forms for the Pioneer Queen, Beard contest, Women’s Expo and Copper Basin Idol after Jan. 9, and for the Citizen of the Year nominations, which must be in by Feb. 9.

WASTE DISPOSAL VOUCHERS The Waste Disposal Voucher Program for 2012 will begin Jan. 17. The vouchers replace free dump days and may be obtained at the Board of Supervisors office, 118 South Catalina in Mammoth. Bring a current utility bill as proof of residency. VALENTINE BASKET RAFFLE Winkelman Volunteer Fire Department members are selling tickets for a Valentine Basket. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Drawing will be on Monday, Feb. 13. You can also purchase tickets at the Winkelman Town Hall.

KEARNY ELKS LODGE MEETINGS Kearny Elks Lodge #2478 meetings are held the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. The lounge has a new schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 5 – 8 p.m.

FORMER KENNECOTT/ASARCO WORKERS Anyone who worked at the Kennecott/ ASARCO Concentrator and ASARCO Smelter prior to 1985 contact Rosalind Padilla at 363-5622 to relate your experiences and fond memories.

FREE TAX HELP FOR LOW INCOME If your 2011 household income was less than $50,270, you can receive free help preparing your taxes. Make an appointment for the Hayden location by calling 520-356-7035, between 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday – Friday. Bring all pertinent ID and information on wages, childcare expenses and direct deposit information for each family member to your appointment. Walk-ins will also be welcome to be helped, at the Hayden Senior Center, 520 Velasco Avenue, Thursdays 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Journey Beyond Abuse – a free informational and support group for survivors of domestic abuse will soon begin. Call the Safe Journey House at 520-385-4970 for more information.

SENIOR VALENTINE PARTY Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Hayden Senior Center, on February 10, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Call 356-7035 for information or for a ride.

BALDENEGRO VISITS SENIORS Wenona Benally Baldenegro, Democratic candidate for Congress, AZ District 1, will be in Hayden, Friday, February 10, to attend the Valentine’s Day party at the Copper Basin/Tri-Community Senior Center, 520 Velasco Avenue.

FISH FRY Kearny Golf Course will have a Fish Fry every Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The menu includes: deep fried cod, French fries or baked potato, cole slaw, bread, dessert, iced tea or coffee all for a donation of $8 per plate.

KEARNY CLEAN UP Kearny’s free dump day is held on the second Saturday of every month at the old transfer station. The next free dump day is set for Feb. 11.

WE THE PEOPLE MEETING Personal Safety from A to Z will be the topic at We The People Meeting on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 9 a.m. at the Oracle Court house, focusing on safety awareness, how to defend yourself, being aware of your personal surroundings and instruction related to weapon use and safety will also be reviewed. Presenters will be a former Pinal County Deputy Sheriff and a DPS officer. Meetings are free and open to the public. For more information call Jane at (520) 896-2516.

GREATER KEARNY CLEAN UP DAY Join Kearny, Kearny Southern Baptist Church, Kearny Fellowship Baptist Church and Kearny Seniors in the Greater Kearny Cleanup Day, Feb. 11. If you are interested in signing up to help, call Rose at 520-483-0709 to sign up. Also, if you have a bulky item you need picked up from your residence, call Steve Yurek at 363-9573, any week day prior to the 11th, and they’ll do their best to pick them up for you.

The San Pedro Valley Lions Club in Mammoth will be serving a benefit breakfast on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 7 a.m. to noon at the Lions building at 115 Main Street. Menudo and regular breakfast will be served.

VALENTINE DAY SPAGHETTI DINNER The San Pedro Valley Lions Club in Mammoth is sponsoring a Valentine’s Day Spaghetti Dinner, to be held at 115 South Main Street, Tuesday, February 14, from 4 – 7 p.m. Cost is $5 per plate, dine in or carry out. FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTION The Copper Basin Food Bank will distribute food on the third Thursday of every month at 1:30 p.m. at Hubbard Park in Kearny. The next distribution date is Feb. 16. Please bring your own box. Donations are accepted. The CBFB is assisted by the Florence Food Bank. Food distribution times may vary each month. Numbers for the distribution will always be given out starting at 11:30 a.m.

The Town of Superior invites you to come and explore the LOST trails and learn more about the many legends of Superior at the Legends of Superior Trails Eco-Tourism Fest. The even starts at the Magma Club, 38 Kumpke Court, Saturday, Feb. 18, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pancake breakfast, history luncheon, guided hikes, wellness fair, kids’ scavenger hunt and lots of outdoor demonstrations are planned. QUILT SHOW The Scrap Rats 10th anniversary Quilt Show will be held Saturday, March 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Queen Valley Recreation Hall.
