On Jan. 8, 2015, 14 Superior High School students attended the DECA Eastern District Competition, where students from 12 other schools from the area competed in events in areas such as apparel and accessories, restaurant management, hospitality, travel and tourism, sports and entertainment, sales, and much more.
This challenging one-day competition tested students’ skills on how to handle a multitude of business/marketing situations in a role-play scenario. Students also had to take a 100-question test to assess their business knowledge, the role-play and test scores were then averaged and top scorers were awarded medals. Two students from Superior High School, Joseph Diaz-Gonzalez and Victoria Juarez received runner up medals in the principles of marketing event. Other students attending the competition were Jose Lira, Ricardo Ochoa, Amber Alonzo, Tatiana Babino, Kassandra Baltierra, Eleanna Ybarra, Allison Martinez, Olivia Arriola, Phalicitee Thomas, Terrece Flowers, Nicolaus Cruz, and Gabby Hernandez. DECA members will now concentrate on perfecting their skills for the state competition which will be held in March.
