Baseball– Senior ace Rickey Longoria won his fifth-straight game of the season in as many starts, pitching a second consecutive complete-game shutout in the Panthers’ 6 – 0 victory against Duncan last Tuesday. Longoria, who has 37 strikeouts in his last three starts, fanned 15 Braves in Tuesday’s win while allowing only three hits. In his last outing on Mar. 12 versus Duncan, Longoria pitched a no-hitter. He now has a 0.78 ERA with 54 strikeouts on the season and opposing hitters are batting only .108 against him. Matthew Zavala was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI against the Braves, which was more than enough run support for Longoria. Steven Denogean and Nicolaus Cruz each added an RBI in the win. The Panthers moved to 4 – 0 in sectional play after the victory and sit atop the sectional standings, tied for first with Pima and fifth-ranked San Manuel. Softball– The ninth-ranked Lady Panthers played their first game in almost two weeks last Tuesday and came out swinging in a 19 – 1 victory against San Carlos. Superior scored 13 first-inning runs and six more over the next two innings thanks to nine extra-base hits. Freshman Jalisa Murray led the offensive onslaught, going 3-for-3 with two homeruns and four RBI. Gabby Salcido homered for the third consecutive game and drove in two runs. Cierra Navarrette went 4-for-4 with two RBI and had three of the Lady Panthers’ five doubles in the game. Alicia Arriola and Ariana San Miguel hit the other two. Phalicitee Thomas added a triple. Junior pitcher Ivie Lopez picked up her third win of the year, allowing only one run on four hits with eight strikeouts in five innings. Upcoming games: Apr. 1 at Hayden (2 p.m.), Apr. 2 vs. Ft.
