Superior Rotary honors Students of the Month

The Superior Rotary Club recently recognized four students from the Superior Junior-Senior High School at their weekly club meeting.

The students recognized for month of October were:

Gabby Salcido, Gabby is the daughter of Dora and Joe Salcido. She is an eighth grader at the Junior High. She is currently the Student Body President and is a member of the undefeated girls Volleyball team. Gabby’s plans for the future include attending Arizona State University to become a Medical Assistant and X-Ray Tech.

Jose Lira Jr., Jose is the son of Mila and Jose Lira. He is an eighth grader at the Junior High. Currently Jose serves as the eighth grade Class President and is a member of the Junior High Football team. Jose’s plans for the future include attending the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University to become a sports broadcaster.

Linda Jones, Linda is the daughter of Teresa Zavala and Jeff Jones. She is a Sophomore at Superior High School. Linda is a member of the Journalism and Yearbook programs at school and is also the Publicist for the Student Council. After high school Linda plans to attend UC Berkley for college and become an editor.

Jesse Aguilar, Jesse is the son of Tom and Cassie Aguilar. He enjoys playing sports and is currently a member of the High School Football team. Jesse plans on attending the University of Arizona after high school where he plans to become a Doctor.

Rotary President Roy Chavez congratulated all of the students. He encouraged the students to continue to do well in school, keep their expectations high and not to sell themselves short. He also invited the students to keep in touch with members from the Superior Rotary because they have various life and career experiences that could help the students if they need advice. Chavez also shared with the students the history and mission of Rotary International and explained that the Superior Rotary Club is the oldest service club in Superior having been in existence since 1929.

Superior High School Guidance Counselor and Rotary member Anna Flores also complimented the students and thanked the Superior Rotary for supporting the Superior School District with the backpacks for the Win to Swim events, scholarships and providing dictionaries to students.

The Superior Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at Noon at Los Hermanos Restaurant in the Blue Room. If you are interested in becoming a Superior Rotarian feel free to attend one of their weekly meetings.
