  According to state law, police may arrest suspected offenders by two methods. The suspect may be physically taken into the department and booked into jail, or the arresting officer may write a citation and release the suspect to appear in court later. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Only criminal citations are listed. All damage amounts are estimates.

  Items are given to The Superior Sun by the Superior Police Department and reflect information available at the time the report is compiled.

  Activity listed April 26 through May 9.

April 26

  Christopher R. Contreras, 59, Superior, was arrested in the area of Stansberry Ave. and Newmont St. on a warrant for contempt of court issued out of the Gila County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail in Florence.

April 28

  Assault was reported in the 1100 block of Hwy. 60.

  Violation of a court order was reported in the 300 block of Gibbs St.

  Vehicle theft was reported in the 1100 block of Hwy. 60.

April 29

  Thomas P. Lopez, 63, Superior, was arrested in the 400 block of Copper St. and was charged with false reporting to law enforcement. He was cited and released.

April 30

  An accident with injuries was reported at milepost 225 on Hwy. 60.

  Theft was reported in the 1000 block of Belmont Ave.

  Dustin D. Daniels, 39, Superior, was arrested in the area of Porphyry St. and Kellner Ave. and was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He was also arrested on a Gila County Sheriff’s Office felony warrant for probation violation. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

  Criminal damage was reported in the 1100 block of Hwy. 60.

May 1

  An accident without injuries was reported in the area of Panther Dr. and Golf Course Rd.

  Juan A. Mendez, 22, Superior, was arrested in the area of East St. and Contreras St. and was charged with resisting arrest/physical force (2 counts), resisting arrest/risk physical (2 counts), aggravated assault on a peace officer, trespassing, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested on a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office failure to appear warrant and a pre-adjudication rule civil warrant. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

May 2

  An accident without injuries was reported in the area of Hwy. 60 and Hwy. 177.

May 3

  Theft was reported in the 1100 block of Hwy. 60.

  Theft was reported in the 100 block of Neary Ave.

  Vanessa A. Villarreal, 19, Superior, was arrested in the 800 block of Hwy. 60 and was charged with criminal damage. She was cited and released.

  Violation of a court order was reported in the 700 block of Kiser St.

  Violation of a court order was reported in the 200 block of Garrott Ave.

  Officers investigated a report of child abuse in the 100 block of Sahuaro St. The report was determined to be unfounded.

May 6

  A hit and run accident was reported in the 500 block of Heiner Dr.

  Burglary was reported in the 200 block of Heiner Dr.

May 7

  A narcotics offense was reported in the zero block of Mitchell Dr.

  Theft was reported in the 400 block of Main St.

  Burglary was reported in the 400 block of Picket Post Dr.

May 8

  Theft was reported in the 400 block of Picket Post Dr.

  Suesannah M. Martinez, 20, of San Tan Valley, was arrested in the area of Ray Rd and Hwy. 177 and was charged with driving on a suspended license. She was cited and released.

May 9

  Assault was reported in the 100 block of Lobb Ave.

  Calls not listed include traffic stop (55), disturbance (4), citizen assist (1), information (16), welfare check (6), suspicious activity (14), civil matter (3), trespassing (3), animal complaint (7), alarm drop (5), fire (1), found property (2), agency assist (10), fraud (1), medical (2), utility problem (1), attempt to locate (2), field interview (3), 911 hang-up (1) and threatening/harassment (1).

  The Superior Police and Fire Departments have contracted all dispatch services to the Pinal County Sheriff (POLICE) and Florence PD (FIRE). As a result of these changes, you need to know some new phone numbers.
