  According to state law, police may arrest suspected offenders by two methods. The suspect may be physically taken into the department and booked into jail, or the arresting officer may write a citation and release the suspect to appear in court later. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Only criminal citations are listed. All damage amounts are estimates.

  Items are given to The Superior Sun by the Superior Police Department and reflect information available at the time the report is compiled.

July 29

  Assault was reported in the 1000 block of Western Ave.

July 30

  Benjamin R. Vasquez, 49, Superior, was arrested in the area of Sonora St. and Bridge St. on six failure to appear warrants issued out of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail in Florence.

  An accident without injuries was reported in the area of Porphyry St. and Magma Ave.

July 31

  A hit and run accident occurred in the area of Porphyry St. and Kellner Ave.

  Blaine Wesley, 40, Peridot, was arrested in the area of Hwy. 60 and Western Ave. and was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

Aug. 1

  A hit and run accident was reported in the 100 block of Gorham St.

  Criminal damage was reported in the area of Hwy. 60 and Western Ave.

  Jose J. Castaneda, 28, Superior, was arrested in the area of Hwy. 177 and Lobb Ave. on a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office failure to appear warrant He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing a highway and driving on a suspended license. He was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail.

  Calls not listed include traffic stop (17), information (4), welfare check (2), suspicious activity (1), animal complaint (1), alarm drop (9), agency assist (2), trespassing (2), 911 hang-up (2), abandoned vehicle (1), follow up investigation (1), medical (1) and citizen assist (2).

  The Superior Police and Fire Departments have contracted all dispatch services to the Pinal County Sheriff (POLICE) and Florence PD (FIRE). As a result of these changes, you need to know some new phone numbers.
