On Sept. 24, 2016, an officer with the Superior Police Department made a routine traffic stop on US Highway 60 at mile marker 224. They pulled over the car because the license plate was too faded to read. Once the car was pulled over, Officer Bryan Lawrence and his K-9 partner Ace were brought in.
The pit-bull narcotic dog gave an alert, which meant there were possible drugs in the car. According to Officer Lawrence the driver admitted to having two marijuana cigarettes. Upon searching the car almost eight pounds of high grade marijuana was seized along with a handgun. The driver was charged with a weapon misconduct in the commission of a felony drug offense.
In the two months the new narcotics team has been on the job, K-9 Ace has had seven positive alerts that have resulted in some sort of drug arrest. This is the second largest bust in Ace’s short but successful career.
