SHS Class of 1960

It had been five years since their 50th class reunion yet it felt like it just happened yesterday. The reunion was held in Mesa the weekend of

Nov. 7-8, 2015 at the home of Kay (Valdin) and Carter Herrera. In attendance were Herbert Brooks, Frankie Gillette, Kay Valdin Herrera, Joyce Hing, Louie Mannheimer, Barbara Bailey Nancarrow, Richard Padilla, Patty Benson Pesce, Ray Provencio, Carmen Diaz Rios, Marion Cody Saba and Jane Wing Wong.

Also celebrating with classmates were spouses, Pat Brooks, Carter Herrera,

Dianne Mannheimer, Schella Padilla, Genevieve Provencio and Raymond Rios.

Arriving in style was Herb and Pat Brooks driving their beautifully restored

1962 Impala, named “Goldie.” The frame off restoration with everything

repaired or replaced took four years to complete. In pristine condition the

“jewel” is ready for any antique car show.

During the evening when discussing our ages, one classmate commented,

“time has been good to us.” Another classmate chimed in, “isn’t 70 the new 60?”

Everyone continues to lead very active and productive lives including: Serving on local community boards, participating in civic organizations, doing volunteer work, substitute teaching, fishing including fly fishing, playing tennis, painting, swimming, water aerobics, hiking, golfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, outrigger canoe paddling, restoring cars, traveling throughout the USA, Europe, and Asia, and spending time with children and grandchildren.

The evening was filled with laughter, reminiscing, telling stories, and feasting on a delicious Mexican dinner. All are thankful for good health, lasting friendships, and cherished memories of growing up in small town Superior.
