Superior – Recently, the children, accompanied by teaching staff and parent volunteers, participated in a walking field trip to the Superior His ‘n’ Her Hair Salon. Once there, they took a tour of the salon and asked Irene Morris, Owner and Stylist, about different haircuts, hair colors, and why she has the “big chair”, aka the barber chair, and why she is a stylist. She explained that she enjoys being her own boss and owning her own business.

One child asked Mrs. Morris if she lived there at the salon. Another exclaimed, “I want to be my own boss and work for the city and then cut my hair!”

They also peeked into the shampoo bowl and watched a client receive a haircut. They asked if the clippers tickled, when used to trim hair on the back of the neck.

Later, the children paused to view the Christmas decorations set up inside the salon. They counted the reindeer, described the lights and wondered what made the reindeer move.

The last day of class for the semester is Thurs., Dec. 19. On that day, the children will participate in a walking field trip to the Superior Senior Citizens Center to sing finger play songs and mingle with the elder citizens of Superior.

The Superior Head Start Program/Pinal Gila Community Child Services Agency will be participating in the Federal Review, starting on the week of January 13, in order to continue funding for the vital work of providing early childhood education in our community, which helps to prepare children, 3 -5 years of age, for elementary school.
