Superior – During the week of Jan. 13 – Jan. 17, Superior Head Start underwent Federal Review. The interviews lasted an hour or more, for each teacher.

“I was one of the Teachers from our PGCCS agency selected to participate in the Federal Review “Teacher Interview.”” said Teresita Martinez Olmos.

She continued “ The Federal Reviewers visited our Superior Head Start site Wednesday and Thursday. It was an awesome experience to participate in the review.”

January was a busy month for the children, filled with literacy, eating and activities for health, with an emphasis on making healthy choices.

At Head Start, children are encouraged to eat a variety of healthy foods, daily. On Jan. 28, the Head Start students toured the Save Money Market as part of their school readiness activities. They selected vegetables to purchase to prepare & enjoy a “Stone Soup.”, ala the beloved tale of the same name.

As they participated in their second Fatherhood Activity, the children spent the day in class with their father, grandfather, uncle, grandmother, and/or mother. “Super Hero” masks were created, using a bat stencil, markers, scissors, pipe cleaners & stickers; and, “fruit kabob” snacks were prepared with their role models. Throughout the day, the children participated in learning and using kind words, and, how they affect other people’s feelings. They also were introduced to understanding that we all have many feelings inside, and, that feelings are natural and are okay to have.

The Staff and children of Superior Head Start are looking forward to journeying together through what February brings.
