Superior Head Start students made a visit recently to the Superior Senior Center.

Superior – As the holiday season comes upon us, the children of Superior Head Start have been busy in anticipation of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday break which draws ever nearer.

The students are always excited when parents, community volunteers/guests come and have fun, as they labor and progress in their skills and address safety activities. Monthly walking field trips, accompanied by staff, parents and volunteers are a mainstay of the Superior Head Start curriculum. . The children have enjoyed touring and interacting with the local business community.

Each field trip encourages creativity, cooperation, sharing, social skills, while the children gain knowledge and experience, hands on; especially in the dramatic play center. For example, students, during free play, will eagerly dress up, role play, plan and construct. Meanwhile, practicing communication as they explore various environmental print, materials, and, create their own imaginary play and art, from the role of a “doctor” to “Batman.”

The children have participated in Silly Dress Up Day at the Superior Senior Citizens Center, in the Pinal County Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Training, and hosted the Superior Head Start Open House, Smokey the Bear visited as a special guest during Fire Prevention Week.

The children also participated in Read to Kids Day. They were presented several books to add to the Superior Head Start class library by the Pinal County Attorneys’ Office Staff and Mila Lira from the Superior Optimist Club.

Most recently, the children toured the Resolution Copper Company Office and received “safety helmets” as well as a goody bag. They enjoyed viewing the story about Digby. The visit was a school topic which related to school safety. The business community enjoyed listening to the children’s comments and ideas.
