The children have been adapting to the classroom daily schedule and routines, such as brushing teeth, songs, agreements, promoting a school family, letter and number recognition, cutting and gluing to develop fine motor skills, counting, learning basic colors, developing problem solving abilities and healthy decision making, self control and enhancing their social emotional skills as part of school readiness.

The children contribute to the school family through their job and by adding to a climate of caring which helps build self-worth and value. Families also participate in the program through volunteer work.

At this time, assessing is also taking place. The child assessments are being conducted which assists the teaching staff and the Head Start readiness program see where each child is developmentally and to assist the staff in planning for them based on their needs.

On September 13, all of the children participated in a Screening Day where their vision and hearing, ESI, height, weight were measured.

On Sept. 20, the children will be participating in their first walking field trip, titled, “Walk around the Block.” in which they will, accompanied by teaching staff and volunteers, learn, firsthand, where their school is located within the block in the community.
