The Superior High School FCCLA hosted its 7th Annual Cancer Fight by Candlelight event this past Saturday.  Luminarias lined Sunset Drive in memory of those who passed from Cancer,  honoring those fighting a battle with Cancer and celebrating those who have survived a battle with Cancer.

The walk commenced at the Superior Memorial Football field where participants walked one last lap then settled in for entertainment and speeches.  This year the FCCLA recognized Florence Aldrete who is now cancer free and fought a battle with stage four cancer.  Florence thanked the people of Superior for supporting and helping her during her battle.  Allysia Perea along with her siblings Miranda and Dominic shared their story of losing their mother to cancer a few years ago during their teenage years.  They shared the heart break of losing their mother and how they have overcome their grief with positive memories of their mom.

The names of survivors and those fighting were read during the ceremony and a balloon ceremony memorializing those who lost their battle cancer ended the evening following a performance by Baile Folklorico Alma de Superior.

A representative from the Relay for Life Cobre Valley explained that the money raised at this event goes to the American Cancer Society and is distributed throughout the community to those fighting cancer.  The funds help to provide transportation to treatments, wigs and other services that cancer patients also need.
