The Superior Town Council had many issues during their regular scheduled meeting including the discussion of the inter governmental agreement (IGA) with Pinal County Law Enforcement Communication Dispatch Services, a grant for the fire department, consideration of advertising on town ambulances and issues of Resolution Copper were all addressed.
Chief of Police Nipp spoke with the town council regarding the IGA with Pinal County to handle the Town of Superior’s Dispatch Services for a cost of $75,000 a year. The budgeted amount for the dispatch services is $180,000. There will be an administrative type position still at the Superior Police Department. After Chief Nipp’s presentation the town council agreed to approve this IGA with Pinal County.
The town council passed the ordinance of the mayor and town council of the Town of Superior, Pinal County, Amending Section 2-4-1 of the Code of Ordinance of the Town of Superior relating to council meetings, places, dates and times. The town council in January will be meeting once a month, the second Thursday of each month.
The consent agenda including the minutes of the Superior regular and special council meetings on Oct. 2, 2014 were approved by the town council. The Town of Superior recognized November as National Head Start Month. Mayor Valenzuela said, “I appreciate all the contributors and volunteers.”
The town council acknowledged the recent work at the cemetery with the LDS group of around 200 students, Redbear Outfitters and the town and public works all helped out to make another successful clean up day possible for the Town of Superior.
The approval of a grant for the Superior Fire Department was approved by the town council as submitted by Todd Pryor to Apache Gold Casino and Resort for the amount of $11,692.74 for turnout gear for the firefighters.
The town council had a productive conversation about the possibility of advertising policies on the town ambulances. This would give appropriate companies an opportunity to advertise on the ambulances for a fee paid to the Town of Superior. Gaston, town manager said, “This is something to think about that may bring in some funding to the Town of Superior.” The town council will give their thoughts on this issue to Gaston.
During the call to public several members of the public addressed the mayor and town council regarding the Resolution Copper Mine and the Town of Superior coming to an agreement to open the mine. After the call to public the town council responded that they are waiting to hear back from Resolution Copper Mine.
On the next agenda the town council requested an update from the annexation committee.
