When we talk about healthcare, it’s important to remember that even though more Americans have health insurance coverage these days, millions of people still struggle to find a place to go for regular preventative care. A key part of the solution lies in our nation’s Community Health Centers, which have provided quality, affordable care for 50 years.
Recently, Sun Life Family Health Center in Pinal County, and many like it across the nation, faced an uncertain future and a massive funding cut that could have hurt patients and cost jobs. Yet, thanks to the leadership of Senators John McCain Jeff Flake and many others, we can now continue our mission to serve patients for another 50 years.
They heard us when we joined thousands of advocates in Washington and met with our senators and representatives to urge passage of legislation that would avert our “funding cliff.” In a rare bipartisan act, they passed H.R. 2, which ensures that access to care at health centers like ours are not put at risk and will continue health center mandatory funding for another two years. As a result, Sun Life will continue to save the healthcare system money by keeping patients out of emergency rooms and by more effectively managing chronic conditions. We can also help people stay healthy, and create jobs in our communities.
All too often, as a nation, we have been cynical about government and our leaders in office. Today, however, we at Sun Life are grateful. Thank you Senator McCain, Junior Senator Flake, and State Representatives Ann Kirkpatrick (D), Martha McSally (R), Raul Grijalva (R), Paul Gosar (R), Matt Salmon (R), Ruben Gallego (D), Trent Franks (R), and Kyrsten Sinema (D) for your bipartisan vote that protects funding for health centers and ensures future generations have access to care when they need it.
Thank you,
