  Sue Lucas, 83, passed away in Kearny on April 1, 2017. She was born in Lyons, Kansas on Jan. 9, 1934 to Cloyd “Red” and Emma Kern John.  She was married to Roger Lucas on June 23, 1984 in Salina, Kansas.               
  Sue, who was a lifetime resident of Lyons, Kansas, worked as an optometrist assistant for 23 years. She was a member of the PTA for the Sterling School District and she helped get Title IX
girls into sports at the high school level. She enjoyed playing “May I” card game with Doris Gill,
Maxine Hayes, Katie Miller and Donna Cundith and she enjoyed her bowling league, golfing
with friends and belonging to her bridge clubs. She also taught her husband, Roger, and their children to enjoy fishing.   

  Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Lucas; her parents, Cloyd “Red” and Emma Kern John; and son Terry G. Johnson.

  She is survived by her daughters, Stacy Johnson and Teri Varley, both of Kearny, Vicky (Barry) Porter of Little River; Shandi (Scott) Lang of Fowler; KS; son, Tony (Orella) Lucas; sister, Merna D. Kelley of Lyons; and stepbrother, Jack Hartle. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Romeo and Ashiya Varley; Jacy and Kala Porter; Grace, Tuck, and Eli Lang; Brock, Joe, and Hanna Lucas; Burk A., Kelly,  Brice J.  and Tiffany Johnson.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at Lyons Municipal Cemetery in Lyons, Kansas. Memorials should be made to Friends of Animals in care of Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons, KS or at THEMA-Hospice Care of Globe/Miami.
