Rachel Nehrmeyer, granddaughter of San Manuel resident, Roger Wilson, recently won the Middle School Excellence award and 2nd place Grand award in Animal and Plant Sciences at the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Fair (SARSEF) for her entry, Harvested H2O: Hype or Health?, in March. She then went on to win the state’s 2nd place award in Plant Sciences at the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix in April. Rachel’s project tested a variety of water harvesting techniques, and her results supported the benefit of rainwater harvesting for plant health. She plans to continue investigating different aspects of water harvesting and its benefits for our desert communities. She is a 7th grade student at Casas Christian and the daughter of Edna (Wilson) and Leonard Nehrmeyer, both graduates of San Manuel High School.
