On Monday, May 6, 2013, I had posted in a Facebook group that I am curious if many people in Kearny had received a letter as I did a few days ago from the San Carlos Apache Tribe; that it was addressed to “OUR NEIGHBOR” in care of my Kearny post office box; that it contained what they said was their reasons for not wanting the Resolution Copper Mine at Oak Flat east of Superior; and that the envelope had the following words written on it (which I believe was a scare tactic on their part): “Please help us avoid an Environmental Disaster in your backyard.”
I was hoping there would be comments of opinions from those who had also received the same letter, and who were familiar of the disagreements taking place. I was hoping to try to find out who, besides myself, was interested enough to try to separate the truth from fiction.
Of the over 90 people who read the post, there were only 23 who commented, and among them was from a lady who wrote that had not the mining industry been introduced throughout our Copper Corridor, none of us would be here.
The letter can be downloaded and read here: http://bit.ly/17Rjt8X. If you have a comment and would like to share it with our readers, please post it directly to the Copper Area Facebook page at FB.com/copperarea or email it to editor@minersunbasin.com.
