The Superior Unified School District approved a sponsorship agreement with Resolution Copper in the amount of $75,000 for the 2015-16 school year.
The $75,000 will be disbursed throughout many programs at the district including funding for teacher training and the Beyond Textbooks program, which many districts across the state are using. These two programs will help to keep curriculum aligned in the district as well as provide additional instructional support for language arts and reading.
The JFK library will receive $15,000 of the funding to help purchase new books, check out system and computers for the elementary school. The district has been working diligently with the Superior Public Library and the Rotary Club to re-open the elementary school library, it has been closed for many years due to budget cuts.
Funding will also be allocated to the robotics program in both the Junior/Senior High School as well as the elementary school program. In addition to the robotics program at both schools, funding will be allocated to the Junior/Senior High Athletics program as well as a new intramural athletics program at the elementary school.
Resolution Copper will also continue to fund the Geology Courses and Nature Club Program which SUSD students participate in.
The Superior Unified School Governing Board approved the sponsorship agreement 4-0 at their July meeting. Board Member Max Magallanez recused himself from the vote.
