San Manuel Miners

The San Manuel football team won its third-straight game last Friday night, defeating Miami on the road, 26 – 12.

“Our kids really stepped and held their own against a team that came out fighting hard at the beginning,” Miners’ head coach Daniel Williams told the San Manuel Miner. “We started a little slow but picked it up and took charge.”

The Miners’ defense got the scoring started when Benny Laguna intercepted a Vandals’ pass and returned it 80 yards for a pick-six.

“All of our guys on defense played a great game,” Williams said.

Quarterback Caleb Quintero threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Diego Sierra. The Miners’ signal caller also rushed for a score.

Running back Christian Velasquez ran for 108 yards and a touchdown in the win.

“We’re gelling team,” Williams said. “Everyone is getting their opportunity to shine.”

Up next:  Globe at San Manuel on Friday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
