San Manuel seniors nab more than $1.9 M in scholarships

SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Scholarships were presented to Julia Cardenas-Tellez, Angeleeaha Jennings, Maxwell Fisher, Atlantida Felix, Emily Large and Hannah Reidhead.

  This year, graduating students at San Manuel High School broke the record for amount of scholarships awarded, earning more than $1,906,560 in scholarships to aid them in their college pursuits. Valedictorian Julia Cardenas-Tellez and Salutatorian Angeleaha Jennings received about $993,632 in scholarships and there were more than a few others who also earned a serious amount of scholarships.

  Many local students will qualify for the Central Arizona College Promise of the Future program but it is no longer considered a scholarship. The very popular program was in jeopardy of being cancelled if different financial controls were not put into place. The CAC Promise for the Future award will be given to the qualifying student only after all Pell Grant funds are used. Each award is worth up to $6,048.

  Cardenas-Tellez was awarded the Wildcat Excellence Award at the University of Arizona, which pays $8,500 for four years. She also received: the Worth and Dot Howard Foundation Scholarship ($1,000 for four years), SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Scholarship ($3,000 for four years); SaddleBrooke Rotary Scholarship ($2,000), Central Arizona College Academic Scholarship ($4,128 over two years), CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years), Provost Scholarship and Obama Scholar ($24,000 for four years), University of Portland President’s Scholarship ($25,000 for four years, plus $100,000), Drake University Presidential Scholarship ($20,000 for four years), Northern Arizona University Lumberjack Scholarship ($10,390 for four years), and Grand Canyon University The Chancellor Scholarship ($12,000 for four years),

Angeleaha Jennings receives the Vantage West Credit Union scholarship.

  Jennings was awarded the Wildcat Excellence Award at the University of Arizona, which pays $8,000 for four years. She also received: the SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Scholarship ($3,000 for four years); SaddleBrooke Rotary Scholarship ($2,000), State Elks Scholarship ($1,000), Vantage West Credit Union ($1,000), Central Arizona College Academic Scholarship ($4,128 over two years), CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years), Arizona State University Provost Scholarship ($10,000 for four years), Northern Arizona University Lumberjack Scholarship ($10,390 for four years), and Grand Canyon University The President Scholarship ($8,000 for four years).

Isabella Barragan received the Knights of Columbus scholarship from Al Trejo.

Alejandro Camacho receives the Phillip Clark Memorial Scholarship.

Demetria Carter receives an academic scholarship from CAC.

  Demetria Carter received the Wildcat Excellence Award from the University of Arizona ($4,000 for four years), Central Arizona College Academic Scholarship ($4,128 over two years), CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years) and Grand Canyon University The President Scholarship ($8,000 for four years).

  Cheryl Chavez received the Wildcat Excellence Award from the University of Arizona ($3,000 for four years), CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years) and Grand Canyon University The President Scholarship ($8,000 for four years).

Jose Damian receives a CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship.

Atlantida Felix receives the Crimson Success Out of State Scholarship from New Mexico State University.

  Atlantida Felix received the Wildcat Excellence Award from the University of Arizona ($3,000 for four years), Rene Acosta Sr. Family Sueno Americano Scholarship  $1,000, SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Scholarships ($3,000 for four years), SaddleBrooke Rotary Scholarships ($2,000), New Mexico State University Crimson Success Out-of-State Scholarship , Grand Canyon University The Dean Scholarship ($6,000 for four years ($18,579 for four years),Notre Dame de Namur University Belmont Scholarship ($14,000 for four years) and Northern Arizona University Lumberjack Scholarship ($10,390 for four years).

Maxwell Fisher receives a University of Arizona Wildcat Excellence Award.

Emily Large was named Outstanding Senior by her classmates.

Clarissa Lizarraga receives the Gateway Community College Softball Athletic Scholarship.

  Jacelle Madrid received the CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years).

   Leslie Mendez received the CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years).

Rebekah Messing receives a scholarship from the San Pedro Valley Lions.

  Ashiadet Ochoa received the Community Advisory Board Scholarship ($1,000).

Hannah Reidhead receives a University of Arizona Wildcat Excellence Award.

  Jose (Andy) Salas received  $50,000 from the Air National Guard.

  Jonathan Santa Maria received the CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years).

  Larissa Smith received the CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years) and the Grand Canyon University The Antelope Scholarship ($4,000 for four years).

Raya Woods receives a $500 scholarship from Pinal County Federal Credit Union.

   Karen Young received the CAC Promise for the Future Scholarship ($4,128 over two years).

   CAC Promise for the Future awards were given to: Julia Cardenas-Tellez, Angeleaha Jennings, Isabella Barragan, Alejandro Camacho, Demetria Carter, Cheryl Chavez, Jose Damian, Maxwell Fisher, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Alicia Guerrero, Cassandra Guerrero, Troy Hannon, Ruben Hernandez, Yesenia Lara,  Emily Large, Jacelle Madrid, Leslie Mendez, Rebekah Messing, Hannah Reidhead, Adrian Reyes, Emily Riekofski, Jonathan Santa Maria, Larissa Smith, Raya Woods and Karen Young.

  This year three young men signed contracts for the United States Military. Ruben Hernandez will be serving in the United States Army. His contract is worth $80,000. Alejandro Camacho and Jose (Andy) Salas will be serving in the Air National Guard. Their contracts are worth $50,000. 

  Following the scholarship presentations, Nick Long was presented an iPad from Living Word Chapel and it was announced that this year’s Outstanding Senior is Emily Large. She was chosen by her classmates.
