SAN MANUEL, Ariz. (Sept. 16, 2012) – Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Arizona (IIABAZ) and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company are awarding a $5,000 grant to San Manuel Fire Department for purchasing new fire hoses.  Specifically, the fire department will replace worn out, defective water supply hoses and quick attack hand-held lines.

“These funds, in essence, are going to greatly enhance our department’s ability to provide an effective water supply to our crews battling various types of fires,” said San Manuel Fire Department Fire Chief John Stanford. “Our current hose is old and outdated while the new hose is stronger and more reliable.  This brings safety to both our crews and citizens.”

San Manuel Fire Department officials, firefighters and executives and employees from IIABAZ and Fireman’s Fund will come together for a special public event where the grant will be presented:

Date / Time:                                     Location:

Monday, September 17, 2012        San Manuel Fire Department

11:00 a.m.                                        29575 S. Veterans Memorial Blvd.

San Manuel, AZ  85631

The IIABAZ solicited and received numerous grant nominations from independent insurance agents throughout Arizona for local fire departments in need.  The Mahoney Group, with eight office across Arizona, was instrumental in identifying the San Manuel Fire Department’s desperate need for funds in the grant application. Specifically, Drew Newton, an insurance producer for The Mahoney Group’s Tucson location, submitted the request.

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire departments and burn prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to nearly 1,900 different organizations totaling more than $29 million—including more than $310,000 in Arizona.  Through the program, independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like IIABAZ, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

“Firefighters face dangers and challenges that most people can’t even imagine,” said Lanny Hair, of the IIABAZ. “Safe and effective fire hoses are a basic, necessary tool San Manuel firefighters need to make this community safe.”
